- IC-761 mods
- ===========
-
- If you are planning to move to Europe from the USA or vice-versa, this info
- will help you change the operating voltage on the IC-761 Icom HF transceiver.
-
- Remove the regulator unit from the top of the radio as per instructions in
- the owner's manual under voice synthesizer installation.
- Remove the cooling fins so you don't damage them and remove the covers of the
- unit to gain access to the internal components.
- Locate the two jumpers which are very clearly marked on the PCB. Each of the
- jumpers has a common point which is marked "C" and a 110 and 220 point.
- Place the "C" to where suits your needs. Remember to change the positions of
- BOTH jumpers. Now is the most interesting part of the job. Icom forgot to
- show one more major change that should be made and is NOT marked in the
- service manual nor the schematics that come with the radio.
- On the 110v versions there is a jumper that shorts the A.C. terminals of the
- bridge rectifier. This jumper should be removed for 220v operation and
- installed for 110v.
- If you convert between 110v to 220v don't forget to change the fuse in the
- rear panel to 5 amps for 220v and 10 amps for 110v.
-
- MOD FOR FULL COVERAGE XMIT.
-
- On the bottom of the radio and behind the volume control you will see a
- resistor marked R37 on the small board called the marker board. Clip one side
- of the resistor and the GENE mode of the radio will allow you to xmit from
- 1.6-30Mhz full coverage.
- Please beware of the local laws concerning transmission outside the ham bands
- as a special licence is required!
- Now if you want the auto tuner to work while in the GENE mode all you have to
- do is clip one wire.
- This is on the top of the radio and on the BAND SW. board (a small board
- located next to the voice synthesizer board).
- Locate the white three pin connector which has a black, a red, and a brown
- wire going to it. The brown is in the middle of the three and is the one that
- should be clipped.
- Re-install the covers and you are ready to go. Dont forget that transmitting
- outside the ham bands is not allowed unless you have a special licence such
- as MARS, CAP, etc.
- Please check with your local authorities.
